Dental implants are the next best thing to your natural teeth. Your missing teeth are replaced with an artificial tooth root (implant) that supports the replacement tooth. The implant consists of a titanium root which is placed into the jaw.
Titanium is used across the medical field as it’s accepted so well by the body. Over time, the implant fuses to the jaw ( integration), becoming strong enough to support a crown or bridge, which is fixed to a post that is placed into the integrated implant. Multiple implants can be used to support a full-arch replacement.
Whilst having a missing tooth can affect your confidence, if it’s visible when you smile, or makes chewing difficult, it can also negatively affect your overall oral health.
Losing the tooth and the root leaves a gap in your jaw that can cause the bone structure to shrink over time. This makes it harder for us to potentially place implants in the future, as the density of the bone is crucial for the implant’s success.
A gap in your smile is also a vulnerable spot that can become under attack from bacteria. The gums are a lot more vulnerable to wear and tear without the tooth there to protect it.
Implants are the best method to replace a missing tooth as no other teeth need to be treated to fit the replacement. They are long-lasting and reliable.
We assess your bone quality and density first, as the condition of your jaw is a strong contributing factor as to how successful the implants will be.
If needed, it is a simple process to replenish the bone with a grafting material.
Our implant surgeon then places the implant in the correct position. Each case is different but where necessary he will provide a temporary crown, bridge or denture whilst the area heals and the implant integrates with your bone.
It takes a couple of months for the implant to fully integrate (fuse) to the bone. Once we are certain that the implant is secure, we expose the top of the implant and take impressions for the laboratory to make the final custom-made restorations.
When your restoration is ready, we fit the new teeth onto the implant. We make sure you’re completely happy with the fit and new smile.
