Oral surgery covers any treatment that requires surgical intervention. It can encompass issues with the mouth, face and jaw. Most people are nervous at the thought of having any surgery, however, oral surgery treatments are often short and can be carried out in the comfort of our studios.

Sometimes the best course of action is to remove a problem tooth. Extractions are the most common oral surgery procedure. Your dentist will assess whether your tooth needs to be extracted or not and then depending on the complexity may refer you for the treatment.
For simple extractions, we loosen the tooth using dental forceps and remove the entire tooth from the socket.
More complicated extractions are necessary if the tooth needs to be removed in parts due to its size. This would include a surgical extraction.
Oral surgery does also include placing implants as a type of procedure. We have an implant surgeon at our Moorgate studio who has placed thousands of implants.
Implants are titanium posts placed in the jaw to support replacement teeth. They are a fantastic way to restore missing teeth and complete a smile.
For serious cases of temporomandibular disorder (TMD), oral surgery may be needed to correct the problem. Surgery can relieve swelling and restore and replenish lost bone. A jaw joint replacement may also be needed if the damage to the joint is significant.
An oral surgeon can also carry out surgery needed to correct a significant bite problem. Orthognathic surgery can dramatically improve asymmetry, overbites and underbites that are too significant for orthodontics to correct on their own. This is something that would be done in a hospital.
